"Worship the Sun" Limited edition bronze: $2750
My “Worship the Sun” sculpture is of a Sioux Indian from the Plains of South Dakota. For the Plains tribes, materials that were extremely rare or difficult to obtain, such as seashells and bear claws were especially valuable. This Indian has both a seashell necklace and earrings. Seashells were obtained in trade with coastal tribes and the Indians thought of them as a “Sun Power Symbol”.
Since their hair was directly related to their soul, the people of the Plains treated and groomed it with special care, and unique ornaments, most of which were medicine items, were worn on the head. Added to these to enhance one’s appearance was an imposing assortment of eagle feathers, necklaces, earrings, and arm bands. Each headdress followed a tribal pattern or else was the result of a vision, and so the wearing of it heightened the spiritual atmosphere in which the warrior walked. Dave Sime
