Only on your Durango, Colorado vacation can you relive history while on board the famous Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

Durango-Silverton Narrow
Gauge Train
Relive history with the sights and sounds of yesteryear for a truly spectacular journey on
board the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Experience
the adventure of traveling by a coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive on the same
tracks that miners, cowboys, and settlers of the old west took over a century ago.
For a real adventure there is whitewater rafting on the Animas River. We
recommend Mild to Wild!
(800-567-6745). Molly and Alex and their staff always show our guests a
great time. They are professional, friendly, and safety minded.
They have trips
from relaxing and enjoyable to paddle or die!
For that great western experience you can go horseback
riding. One of our favorite guides is just up the road from us, (970-247-8923). Their rides are in the
Haviland Lake area and they have rides from one hour to full day.
They have
beautiful horses, and they try hard to match a rider’s abilities to the right
horse.
Fly fishing in the Four Corners area is some of the best
around. Our guests have caught rainbow and brown trout from our Animas River
access. We also suggest hiring a guide for at least the first day on the rivers
to get you used to the area, find where the good “fishing holes” are, and help you
figure out just what the fish are going for!

"Happy Aspen Grove Fishermen"
We recommend Duranglers (970-385-4081). They have
a shop on the San Juan River, below the Navajo Dam, the Disneyland of the fly
fishing world. Their guides virtually live on the San Juan and know just about
all there is to know about that river. Their shop in Durango is particularly nice as
well.
The Red Cliff Studio is located in conjunction with the
Aspen Grove Retreat. Your artist/innkeepers, Connie Morse and Dave Sime welcome
you to their Red Cliff Studio to view oil, watercolor, and sculpture works in
progress.
Then, of course, there are the art galleries and the wonderful shops on Main
Street in Durango.
A word to the wise, leave your diets behind you! Durango has some great
restaurants and calories don't count at this elevation. Connie and Dave will direct you
to their favorites and a restaurant
that you will enjoy.
A must in the Four Corners area is a visit to Mesa Verde National Park www.nps.gov/meve/.

Enjoy your private patio
hot tub or a soak at the Trimble Hot Springs Spa (just five minutes north of
the Red Cliff House).

Needless to say, there is plenty to do in Durango and
the surrounding area. It’s just a matter of fitting it all in!
Did we mention that there is mountain bike riding, the alpine slide at Durango Mountain
Resort, and hiking all to be done in the area around us?

Take an
authentic Stage Coach trip into scenic Weber Canyon and you'll KNOW you've
experienced a bit of the REAL WEST!
During the evening, Fort Lewis College has many concerts. Have a look at their
website at www.durangoconcerts.com
for more information.
